Study in the UK: the estimated cost

Are you interested in studying in the United Kingdom (UK)? The UK has always been one of the favorite destinations for international students. Well, basically, here, we will provide information regarding the tentative costs that will be spent during your studies in the UK.

To begin with, the cost in the UK while studying includes tuition fees, accommodation costs, food costs, transportation costs, and some other costs. However, international students can apply for numerous scholarships and other types of financial support if they meet the admission requirements.

At public universities of the UK, tuition costs can vary significantly. The fee for universities here ranges from 8500- 18200 EUR per year, depending on the university, the type of discipline, and the length of your studies. Some study programs at private universities have tuition costs comparable to those at public institutions whereas, in the case of private higher education, it is obviously more expensive. Collectively saying, students can pay anywhere from 5000 to over 35000 EUR per academic year. Business and Medical Studies are the most expensive at both public and private universities.

Similarly, while living as an international student in the UK, how much it will cost will largely depends on where you will live. In popular cities like London, monthly living costs can rise upto1,500 EUR (1,360 GBP). In smaller towns, you can get by with a budget of 700–1,200 EUR (635–1,040 GBP) per month. Alternatively, if you wish residence halls, many universities here provide student residence halls as well. These living spaces offer great value for money and include the costs of utilities in the overall price. Student residence halls are most popular among first-year students. After the completion of the first academic year, many future graduates choose to rent a private space, either alone or with other peers. This option is more expensive, but it offers a more accurate sense of what it is like to live in the real world. This amount varies according to the selection of students, that is- whether they prefer living outside the city centre or in the city centre. It ranges from 610 GBP per month to 1255 GBP per month, depending on the apartment’s number of bedrooms. Monthly utilities will add another 90–160 GBP to this expenses. Note that 4.55 GBP is equal to 5 EUR approximately.

Furthermore,150 GBP to 250 GBP will be spent on food and groceries. If you eat out and order food often, this budget may rise quickly. For transportation, you can choose from various means of public transport; and most of them offer discounts to students or young people in general. These discounts may be different from one area or city to another. To be clear, this difference can be shown here:

train: 30% discount for full-time students (they should buy a Young Persons Card, which usually costs 30 GBP)
tube (metro/subway) in London: 30% discount for +18-year-old students (they should buy the Oyster Student Card)
bus: 1.50–2.50 GBP (this is only for a one-way ticket)
Moreover, if you wish for recreational activities sometimes, then it will cost more. For instance, cinema, concerts, & theatre will cost you additional 50-100 GBP per month.
Your student visa fee will cost 348 GBP which is one-time fee only. Similarly, the Immigration Health Surcharge which gives you access to the UK’s National Health Service costs the amount of 470 GBP per year.
